Physical education could be traced back to the period of Colonial Masters in 1900. Before the arrival of the Colonial Masters, we have been involving in some primitive Physical activities like hunting, fishing, swimming e.t.c without knowing the importance attached to them. In order word, Physical Education has been in existence in Nigeria before the arrival of our Colonial Master(British) and training was being carried out from time to time to engage to engage some people in doing physical activities. E.g. Armed forces. It was later introduced to the school curriculum as subject of taught particularly in secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Nigeria in 1977.
Among the notable people who graduated with degrees in Physical and Health Education are:
1. Professor M.O. Ajisafe.
2. H.J. Ekperigin.
3. Isaac Akioye
4. J.A. Adedeji .
In 1977, the first curriculum was prepared for physical education in Nigeria. Today, Physical Education has become one of the core subjects in secondary schools worldwide.
